1. Main city highlights. "Ozodi Square" (the Square of Freedom) is biggest and
most beautiful square of the city. There is a monument to Ismail Samani (the founder of Medieval Tajik State)
in the middle of the square and a historical museum nearby.
Opposite to the monument is square the building of Government of Tajikistan. In the vicinity of
in the central green park one can see the bronze statue
of Vladimir Lenin (the statue being a one-to-one copy of well-known sculpture
by V.Kozlov that is positioned in front of the Smolniy Palace in St. Petersburg). |

2.Historical Museum is among the best museums of the kind in Central Asia.
Presented there are unique exhibits from epoch of Neolith to our days. The Museum of
Ethnography is another interesting object to explore where good selection of traditional
earthenware, crockery, carpets, jewellery, musical instruments and clothes of all the
regions of Tajikistan would please curious explorer. |

3. The building of "Writers Union" attracts with its decorative panel of
"Stars of Poetry". All most famous poets of Tajikistan from Rudaki
(860-941) to Mirzo Tursun-Zade (1911-1977) are depicted at the panel.

4. Chayhana (tea house) "Rohat". Light tall pillars, walls rich in intrinsic
alabaster carving and national ornamental painting combined with variety of national dishes
on the menu and comfortable friendly atmosphere make the chayhana
one of city's best destinations for lovers of eating out in traditional Tajik style.

5. A picturesque gorge of Varzob river located just in 35 km from the city is
among most favourite places for townsfolk and guests of the capital where to spend their
weekend. Picturesque mountains, cool water of the river create a special climate and pleasant
atmosphere of peace and repose. There also are some small lakes there and a 30meter-high
waterfall Guzgarf - the most beautiful one in Gissar mountains - hiding in one of the gorges
nearby.
A small city of Gissar located 26 km west of Dushanbe is renowned for the ruins of few
fortresses. There also is a small but very nice historical museum in the setting of the
medieval madrasah.
